Even as orthopedic practices face tighter margins, staffing shortages, and declining reimbursements, Dr. Richard Cunningham of Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery believes innovation cannot slow down.
In a recent interview with Becker’s Spine Review, Dr. Cunningham explained that despite external pressures, his commitment to surgical advancement remains unchanged.
“I honestly do not think the pressures we are facing have yet impacted my approach to surgical innovation,” Dr. Cunningham said. “I think surgeons feel it is incumbent on us to continue to innovate and learn so that we can offer patients the best possible surgical treatments. Orthopedic surgeons have close ties to our colleagues in industry, and it is often through this relationship with industry that we have help innovating.”
Dr. Cunningham emphasized that innovation is ultimately the responsibility of the surgeon, ensuring patients continue to receive the most effective and advanced care available.
